We miss you!!

MAKE A WISH
A wish come true helps children feel stronger, more energetic, more willing and able to battle their life-threatening medical conditions. For many, the wish marks a turning point in the fight against their illnesses. Doctors, nurses and other health professionals say, the wish experience works in concert with medicine to make their patients feel better emotionally and even physically. That is why wishes matter. That is why we grant wishes.
Before Nina came back from Orlando we prepared an interview for her. In this interview we asked her about her trip to Orlando. Here are some of the questions we asked:
NINA’S INTERVIEW

1.      What did you do in Orlando?
2.      How long were you in Disney World?
3.      What’s the wheather like in Orlando? Is it hot?
4.      Do you think that Orlando is beautiful?
5.      Did you have fun in Orlando?
6.      What’s the biggest difference between Barcelona and Orlando?

7.      Did you stay with your parents?
8.      Did Lucky go with you?
9.      Did your family come to visit?
10.  How long were you on the plane?
11.  Were you jetlagged when you arrived?
12.  Did you sing in the plane?
13.  Did you like singing in the airplane?
14.  Was it cool to be with the pilot?

15.  How did you feel when you got to Disney World?
16.  Did you see Mickey Mouse? And Elsa?
17.  Did you enter the castle?
18.  Did you like Disney World?
19.  What rides did you go on?
20.  What were your favourite rides?
21.  What was the most dangerous ride that you went on?
22.  What’s the most famous ride in Orlando?
23.  What was your favourite part of Disneyland World?
24.  Did you like swimming in the pool?
25.  Did you get bored?

26.  What’s the funniest thing that you did on your trip?
27.  Did you think about us?
28.  What was your best moment?
29.  If you had another wish what would it be?

We collected all the information and this was the result:
She spent twelve days in Orlando. She stayed in a hotel with her family and visited lots of attractions. She told us she had a lot of fun. The weather was very hot, more than in Barcelona. She said that the houses were very different to Barcelona.
While she was in Orlando, her dog Lucky stayed with a girl. Her family in America came to visit them in Orlando. She was on the plane for 11 hours 45 minutes. Because of the time difference, she was jetlagged. She told us she was extremely tired. On the way to Orlando she sang “Do you want to build a snowman?” She was very nervous. She went into the cockpit to meet the pilot and she said it was very cool. She felt very happy when she got to Disney World because she was going to see her family and because she was excited about the attractions. She met Mickey Mouse and she took some pictures, and she also saw Elsa in the parade.
She went to Cinderella’s castle. She said she liked Disney World because it was big and there were a lot of attractions.
In the hotel there were swimming pools and she loved the water slide. She didn’t get bored because she was busy all the time. She thought about us when she went to sleep because it was night for her and day for us, she wondered what we were doing. There were a lot of good moments.

She said this was her only wish, but if she had to have one more wish she would be an actress.

A FROZEN WORLD
Today we talked about The Ice and Snow World winter festival!!
It takes place in China. Tourists from all over the world visit the ice and snow sculptures and buildings. It can be -38 degrees.

Children and adults enjoy slides.
The city is full of colours! They use strong multicolour lights and lasers.
The buildings are empty, there are no rooms inside!
An iced city is not built in one day. It takes a lot of time.

THE RESULT IS SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Last Friday Miquel, Oriol, Carla and Martí talked about deforestation to their classmates.
Do you know what deforestation is?
It 's when trees are being cut down and the forests are being destroyed for wood or for land to grow soy. Deforestation is very bad for animals and people that live in the forests. GREENPEACE is an organization that takes action and fights to SAVE THE PLANET!!

SWEET PANTERES!!! WE MISSED YOU A LOT AND WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEE YOU AGAIN IN TWO WEEKS!!!!

Abebe and Martí found two games to learn English and they want to share them with you.

Today we had more!!!!

You have worked hard on your project this term. You started showing your assignment to the rest of the class.
You've done a great job!!!!!!  CONGRATULATIONS!!!

We started reading this term English book. It is called King
Arthur!
It is the year 650 in England. There is war everywhere because the old king is dead and he has no son. Only when the new king comes can the fighting stop and the strange, magical story of King Arthur begin. But first, Merlin the ancient magician has to find a way of finding the next king . . .

The Panteres’ class went to a shop in Passatge Senillosa   street called: Taller de Pasta.

We did a Pasta workshop. We learnt how to make Pasta, the ingredient we need and how to cook the Pasta.

The ingredients we need are: oil, salt, water, 21 eggs and 2’5 Kg of flour and semolina. The portions are: 70% of flour 0, 0 and 30% of semolina. (Flour and semolina are both wheat. The difference between them is the grain., the semolina is thicker and it is yellowish, the flour is thinner)
First he put the beaten eggs with oil in the machine.

He put flour, semolina, salt and he switched on the machine. The machine started kneadind the ingredients. He added water in the mixture so it was not dry. It took about ten minutes to be ready.
He turned off the machine. He put out the dough and he put it on the table. He wrapped up the dough with the filmed paper. We have to preserve it on plastic because it dries up otherwise. –said Graciela.

We had to wait for 15-30 minutes.

Graciela had two bowls. One with flour and the other with semolina.

Semolina's grain is thicker than flour's grain. And it is   yellowish.First we unwrapped the dough and we cut it. She gave us a piece of dough to knead. When we warm it up it becomes softer- said Graciela.

We use the machine to make it thinner or thicker-she  said.
Then we had to put the two kinds of wheat on the table. We spread the wheat and try to make a path. When we pass it through the machine it becomes thinner and longer. We spread flour on the table. We put the flat dough and we covered it with more flour. If the dough has holes we have to fold it and pass it through the machine again.

What do we have to do before cutting the dough? We have the thin dough on the table covered with flour. We cut the dough the size we want to have the Tagliatelle. Finally we pass the thin dough through the machine and it cuts the pasta the shape we want.

How do we have to cook the pasta?

We have to put a lot of water in a pot. When it boils we have to put the Tagliatelle and we have to wait for 2 or 3 minutes depending on the way we like it.

ENJOY YOUR MEAL!!!!!

Pedigree of a Witch

Come on! Lluna, get down! Lluna come! Ainhoa called her cat from her room – “Lluna we are in a hurry and we must go” – Ainhoa climbed up into the roof to her cat Lluna.
When they arrived at the station the train was about to leave. Once on the train she took her cat out of a bag. When they got off the train they saw a lady dressed like a “Queen”, it was her grandmother. Ainhoa ran to hug and kiss her. They went home. Somebody rang the belt; it was Ulises, a friend of Ainhoa’s.
Ainhoa and Ulises collected plants.
“We need Cydonia oblonga to finish our collection” - said Ainhoa.
They went up to the attic. Where there were lots of books. They were looking for a particular book, she reached for the book, but another one happened to fall. It was the first time they saw the book, they decided to inspect the book. They didn’t know what the book were about… right then the grandmother came in.
-          Close the book- yelled grandma
-          Why? – said Ainhoa
-          Is none of your business – replied grandma
Ainhoa ran to her room.
Grandma told Ulises – It’s time for you to go- Ulises ran out of the house
A few hours later grandma went into Ainhoa room and told her. Ulises has not come home. Parents of Ulises told everybody that his son had not come home.
They looked for Ulises, there were the whole afternoon, but they couldn’t find him. They all went home.
Ainhoa couldn’t sleep that night. She went to the grandma’s, the door wasn’t closed, Ainhoa could hear grandma snoring and could see the book on grandma’s night table.
Ainhoa took the book and went into the dining room. She looked through the book, there were many photography on the last page, she looked the photograph that was familiar. It was a photography of his grandma.
Under the last photograph there was the name: AINHOA MONTERO. She couldn’t believe her eyes.  She was going the grandma’s room when she saw hear image in a mirror, it was exactly like the one in the book. She screamed. Grandma woke up and ran where Ainhoa was; the book was on the floor.
Grandma told Ainhoa everyone in the book was a witch. Ainhoa couldn’t believe her ears.
She herself was a witch.
She saw the Ulises image on the wall. He was in a hole in the woods. They knew where he was, they went to get him.
There he was inside a small hole; Ainhoa rescued him and asked him: “What are you doing in the hole?”

“I’m looking for Cydonia oblonga” replied Ulises.

Paulina
The lost House

One day Nathalie, a Young woman, was walking in a forest when suddenly she saw, on top of a pile of sandy bushes, the roof of an old house. Then, she started to dig into the sand until she found the door. Then she got in and she saw a lot of paintings on the walls.
She soon discovered they were really old, from the beginning of the XX Th century. When she had discovered how old the house was she went to the Arts Museum and she told the secretary all the paintings she had found. And she told her the place in the forest where they could find everything and took it to the museum. Then, she left the Museum and she went back to the forest, to the old house again, and started to look for things for herself. She took one of her favourite paintings and a tall glass bottle full of nice shiny stones inside. And she took them home with her.
Then, all the people from the museum went to the house and gathered all the paintings and took then to the museum.
Some days later, Nathalie received a letter from the Museum asking her to go there immediately and when she got there, there were a lot of journalist and photographers and they told her she had been very brave in finding the old lost house. Then she became famous worldwide.
Since then, every night, when she sees the sinning stones in the tall glass bottle, she remembers how famous she become for being brave.

The end

JOHN IS LOST

Once upon a time there was a boy about seven years old called John.

John was a very tall boy, with blond hair and green eyes. He enjoyed to devise both stories and games. He also liked to play football with his friends.

One day he and his parents walked through the city, John saw a football shop and he entertained looking the football shoes. Neither his father nor her mother didn't see it and they continued. Suddenly John felt lost in the middle of the city. He felt tired, nervous and fear. He started to run in order to find his parents. He was both confused and intelligent so he decided to find a city map so that he could arrive alone at home.

When he reach home his father as well as her mother were there ringing the police.

John explained his adventures and they felt very proud because he was able to solve the problem alone.

And they lived very happy forever and ever.

ENGLISH WRITING

Mary was an 11 years old girl. She was always very friendly, and happy. She was a shining star in the middle of a grey sky, a red balloon in the fog. But she had no family. Her father and mother died when she was 2 years old. Jenny was the mother from all the children from the orphanage. She was a good person.
One day, Mary was walking in the street. Then, she heard something. On the ground, there was a box. The sound came out of the box. She opened the box, and inside was a little husky. A beautiful dog. She picked up the dog, and put him under her coat. Mary was very excited. She founded a dog! But... Jenny didn’t want a dog in the house. She had an idea, a sad idea. She walked to Henry’s store. It was not a big store, but it had a lot of things. Henry had a dog, called Pipo.
-     Henry, please, - said Mary – could this dog stay here for a few days? I want to print some posters to find him a house, because he can’t stay with me.
-     Yes, Mary, of course! How did you find him?
-     He was in a wooden box, in the street.
-     Oh, poor animal. I thing that I can find him a home.
-     Really?
-     Really.
-     Thanks, Henry! You are a very good man! Bye, Henry!
-     Bye!
The rest of the day, Mary was sad. But after the dinner, she had a surprise. Jenny begun to talk:
-     O.K, children, I have a good notice for everybody: we will have a dog! Henry has a dog in his shop, and we can have him!
Mary was very happy. She couldn't believe it!
They gave him the name of Sky, and all the children loved him. Mary was all the time with Sky, and they were big friends.

THE TOWN MUSICIANS OF BREMEN GYMKHANA
Last Tuesday the 4th of February 2014 we made a gymkhana about the book: The town musicians of Bremen for the Minerals class.  We divided the class into five groups.

The first activity was called: Feelings. The Minerals had to put the banners with adjectives on the animal’s faces.  If they had spare time we played a miming game. One Mineral had to mime a feeling and the others had to guess what feeling he/she was miming.

The second activity was called: The map of Bremen. The Minerals didn’t know where Bremen is so they had to find the pieces of a puzzle with a map of Bremen. The pieces were hidden in the playground.

The third activity was called: Memory. They had to play a memory with the animals and sounds cards of the story: The town musicians of Bremen. With a partner they had to find the pairs. When they found the pairs they could keep them.

The fourth activity was called: The animals’ instruments.  The Minerals had four instruments and four animals. They said the name of the animals and the name of the instruments. Then they put the instruments on the correct animal. When they finished they said two numbers. With the first number we played the Eeny, meeny, miny, moe game. We took the instrument and played the song again. We took the animal and we asked the Minerals if they matched. If they did they kept the pair.

The fifth activity was called: Food. The Minerals had to follow the footprints and they arrived to a basket with food. They separated the food the animal eat and the food the animals don’t eat. Finally they had to stick the food the animals eat on the animals’ mouth drawing.

"What a Wonderful World" is a song written by Bob Thiele (as "George Douglas") and George David Weiss. It was first recorded by Louis Armstrong and released as a single in 1967. Thiele and Weiss were both prominent in the music world (Thiele as a producer and Weiss as a composer/performer). Armstrong's recording was inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. The publishing for this song is controlled by Memory Lane Music Group, Carlin Music Corp., and Bug Music, Inc.

The Marsupilamis’ class went to a shop in Passatge Senillosa   street called: Taller de Pasta.

We did a Pasta workshop. We learnt how to make Pasta, the ingredient we need and how to cook the Pasta.

The first thing we had to do was to wash our hands. Then we split the class into two groups. One group was with Alessandro in the backstage of the shop. We saw how Alessandro put the ingredients in a machine that mixes and kneads them.

We put the flat dough and we covered it with more flour. If the dough has holes we have to fold it and pass it through the machine again.
One person moves the handle and the other holds the dough. When we’ve passed the dough through the machine we switch places.
What do we have to do before cutting the dough? We have the thin dough on the table covered with flour. We cut the dough the size we want to have the Tagliatelle. Finally we pass the thin dough through the machine and it cuts the pasta the shape we want.

How do we have to cook the pasta?

A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol front piece

A Christmas Carol is a famous book by the English writer Charles Dickens. It was first published on December 171843. The pictures inside were drawn by John Leech. The story has a strong moralmessage against greed, among other things. It is usually read at Christmas time and has been adapted to theatremoviesradio, and television many time

Plot
The story is about Ebenezer Scrooge. At the beginning of the book he is a mean old man who runs a business lending people money. These people are poor and often cannot pay him back. He pays his clerk Bob Cratchit badly.
On Christmas Eve, Scrooge refuses an invitation to his nephew's house for Christmas dinner, telling him he hates it (he calls it a "Humbug"). He then refuses to give money to two men who are collecting for charity.
Later that evening, he is visited by the ghost of his dead business partner Jacob Marley, who went to Hell because of his bad life. He tells Scrooge that the same future will happen to him unless he changes and that during the night he will be visited by three more ghosts. These will show him where he went wrong in his life, and how to be a better person in the future.
The first ghost is the Ghost of Christmas Past. This ghost shows him where he went wrong in the past, showing him his unhappy childhood and how he did not get married.
The second ghost is the Ghost of Christmas Present. This ghost shows him things which are happening now, such as how his clerk, Bob Cratchit, is having a nice Christmas despite not having much money. He also shows him Bob's youngest son, Tiny Tim, who is crippled. Later, the ghost shows him how his nephew is having a good Christmas, and how Scrooge is missing out.
The third ghost is the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. This ghost shows Scrooge what Christmas will be like in the future if he does not change. Firstly, people are shown celebrating a man's death and robbing from his house. The ghost also shows him that Tiny Tim has died. Scrooge is then shown his own grave, and realizes that the celebrations were for his death.
On Christmas morning, Scrooge wakes up and realizes that he has to change. He decides to celebrate Christmas, and help Tiny Tim get better. Through the ghosts' help he becomes a better man

Dear Suricates:

IT'S HALLOWEEN TIME!!!!!!!!
31st October 2012
If you want to carve a Jack-O-Lantern you have to follow these steps:
First- Take your umbrellas and go to the market to buy 4 pumpkins.

Second- Divide the class in four groups and cover the table with newspaper.
Third- Measure a circle with about a 2-inch (5cm) radius from the stem. You'll cut around this circle to make the lid.

Fourth- Remove the filling from the pumpkin. Use a large spoon or your hands to pull all of the filling and seeds from the inside of your pumpkin.

Fifth- Draw your design on the pumpkin. For traditional, silhouette and pith carving, use a permanent marker or dry-erase marker to outline your design on the pumpkin.

Sixth- For pumpkin carving, use a serrated bread knife.

English Exercises > to be exercises > There is/are - Counting Stars

1. Complete the following text with the correct for of the verb "to be":

 ASTRONOMERS COUNT THE STARS

There  ten times more stars in the visible Universe than all the grains of sand on Earth's beaches and deserts.
Because of the bright lights of the modern cities, when we look up at the sky we can see no more than 100 stars.
But from dark parts of the Earth, the naked eye can see more than 5.000! And modern telescopes tell a very different story.
With the help of some of the world's most powerful instruments to measure the brightness of all the galaxies in one sector
of the cosmos, Australian astronomers say it  probable that there  70 sextillion stars in the visible Universe.
In other words and numbers, seven followed by 22 zeroes, a really astronomical figure.
That  more than the total number of graisn of sand in all the world's beaches and deserts, and that  only
the stars in the visible Universe within range of our telescopes.
Dr. Simon Driver, of the Australian National University, has a theory that many of the stars out there have planets,
and that some of them probably have life. Dr. Driver's theory  not exactly new, and those planets  so distant, he says,
that there  no real possibility for us to see or contact anyone living on them.
(adapted from "Astronomers Count the Stars", by Andrew Craig, BBC News, 22 July, 2003)
2. Complete the questions and then answer them.
a. Is there a planet called Earth? Yes, there is.
b.  a planet called Sun?
c.  a satellite called Moon?
d.  beaches and deserts on the moon?
e.  ten planets in our Solar System?
f.  a galaxy called the Milky Way?
g.  billions of stars in the Milky Way?
h.  a planet called Mars?
i.  little green men on Mars?
3. Use possessive forms instead of have/has to make new sentences with "is" or "are" and the complement in parenthesis.
a. Dr. Simon Driver has a theory. (not new)
Dr. Simon Driver's theory is not new.
b. Our planet has a satellite. (called moon)
